CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tennis program capped its home season with a pair of commanding conference victories Monday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center, sweeping both the women's and men's matches against New Orleans 4-0.
The women wrapped first as the Islanders seized immediate control in doubles and never looked back.
Josefa Fuenzalida and
Emma Bousquet on court three and Adriana Jimenez and
Viktoriia Sedova on court two followed each other with a pair of 6-1 wins to quickly clinch the doubles point.
Yana Mykytyn and
Kseniya Ramanouskaya completed the sweep with a 6-4 result at the top court, securing the doubles point in decisive fashion.
That momentum carried into singles, where
Adriana Jimenez Casado extended the team with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Kseniya Ramanouskaya added another point with a 6-1, 6-0 decision, and
Leticia Tarocco clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court one. With the team result decided, Mykytyn, Fuenzalida and
Juliette Jalai were all up with a set but were left unfinished as the Islanders wrapped up the win early.
Alongside them, the men matched that intensity with a sweep of their own. In doubles,
Matthieu Coignet and
Mikel Garmendia set the tone with a 6-1 win, followed by a mirrored 6-1 victory from
Etienne Marty and
Omar Suarez.
Ethan Dasset and
Josef Zapletal closed out the doubles point with a 7-5 result, giving the Islanders a 1-0 edge.
Singles play only widened the gap.
Maxime Salesses picked up a quick point on court six with a shutout 6-0, 6-0 performance.
Nicholas Niox Chateau was up after a 7-5 opening set and led 2-0 when his retired in the second set for another point, and
Omar Suarez delivered the clincher with a 6-2, 6-0 victory, pushing the Islanders comfortably over the finish line. Marty, Dasset and Zapletal went unfinished once the outcome was secured.
The sweeper marked a strong finish at home for A&M-Corpus Christi. The men wrap up the regular season on Saturday at UIW, while the women do so on the same day at McNeese. With one regular-season match remaining on the road, the Islanders head into the final weekend carrying momentum on both sides before shifting focus to the postseason.
